What are some of the things that I
can see and do at the event...?
- Shopping: Visit the Shopping Bazaar to browse
and buy exotic clothing, jewelery, paintings and other artifacts brought
by several reputed vendors from far an near. For the value shopper/bargain
hunter, there is also a consignment store selling gently used (or never
used) items donated by members of the community to help the designated
charity. Buy tickets to the raffle and win great prizes.
- Food : Restaurants from Greenville and North Carolina
have brought in the best of their wares to enthrall your taste buds.
Visit the outdoor patio area, to have a fresh crisp Dosai. Thirst...?
Enjoy exotic Indian drinks (Mango or Sugarcane juice) or if good old
soda is what you crave, those are available too.
- Activities for children: Visit the Baal Maidaan
(Kids' playground) area to try your hand at various games that kids
in India play all the time. Enjoy making nifty crafts and projects...
or browse through their store to buy traditional handmade toys &
things that kids in India enjoy collecting. Stop by and say hello to
the "Indian Princess" and have a souvenir picture taken with
her. Be sure to check out the passport activity in Kaleidoscope
area.
- Kaleidoscope - the colors and hues of Indian culture:
Check out the various artifacts and informative charts on display to
appreciate India's cultural diversity, presented in booths organized
along regional lines. In spite of differences in language, clothing,
food habits and traditions... there is also an underlying Unity in Diversity.
Then test your knowledge by picking up a Passport and answering
all the questions you can... you just might win a cool prize.
- Stage shows : Various dance and music performances will
be presented by local emerging talent for your enjoyment. These are
drawn from a variety of areas.. ranging from traditional, folk and contemporary
dance forms. Click here for stage event schedules.
- Interactive Workshops : In the mood for something more
...? Attend an in-depth workshop conducted by various experts. Several
sessions are available to choose from on topics ranging from dance,
music and cooking. Click here for workshop schedules.
- Henna: Get a temporary, all natural herbal tattoo at
the Henna stalls. Patterns can be quite intricate or for those
in a hurry.. something simple.
- It's like being there : Amaze your friends by dressing
up in Indian clothes of your choice and having your picture taken in
front of a famous landmark (Tajmahal, Qutab Minar). Chances are they
will believe you did actually take that 22 hour flight for this picture.
- Holistics area: Folks are here to talk to you about
various forms of meditation, yoga and even foretell your future by reading
your palm...!!
- Mingle: Day With India is an outreach event designed
to help members of Indian and non-Indian communities to learn more about
one another. Feel free to chat with any volunteer or your host community
member for any questions or to share a thought. Not to worry... noone
will be offended.
